Having a newborn in your home is the most thrilling experience, but at the same time can cause a lot of anxiety. You are excited about the new addition to the family, but also nervous about possible safety hazards in your home that could threaten the baby. Generally people do not give much attention to the hazards in bay’s crib. Every year thousands of infants are injured or killed by improperly arranged crib decorations and baby bedding. Although all deaths from Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) cannot be explained, many tragedies can be prevented.

Matching sets are often the rule for baby bedding, they are available from several manufacturers, but shop wisely when choosing crib linens. Wash all baby bedding with special baby detergent before your child is exposed to it. Because you don’t know where blankets have been, wash them before putting them in the crib.

Nursery themes has many components, but a key piece is a quality mattress, cheap ones will rip and pose a danger to babies. This can be combined with a nice baby bedding set. If you notice even a small amount of wear, replace the crib mattress as soon as possible. Make sure the mattress pad you choose fits snugly and securely under the crib sheets. A crib mattress should be thick, but not so thick that sheets can’t stretch to cover it and pop up.

Check over your baby’s crib every time you use it, look for loose strings, rips or tears, so your baby is safe. Crib bumpers prevent babies from rubbing against the rails in a crib, but they must be tied tightly and checked for loose strings or flaps.

There should be very few toys be in the crib in general, and none at all while the baby is asleep. Even such seemingly harmless things like stuffed animals can pose a danger to the baby if they cover the baby’s face. Supervising your child’s playtime sometimes includes removing all toys from the crib when baby is sleeping. Foam wedge can be an alternative to pillows if the child feels better with its head elevated a little. Certain models of cribs have Mesh canopies which will drive off the mosquitoes and curious pets.
